Warriors of Hope Corner

The Warriors of Hope Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Paddling Team spent a couple of days in beautiful Prince Edward County. We paddled in Wellington, Ontario. It was a very interesting and challenging venue on a peninsula off of Lake Ontario. We had exceptional times for the 200 metre races and came in a very impressive 3rd place.

If you have taken a stroll down the waterfront, you have probably observed the ribbon of hope garden. The Weed Warriors (part of our paddling team) have been nurturing that garden over the spring and summer. Great job Weed Warriors, thank you for your time and devotion.

If you have not already done so, there is still time to register or sponsor the Warriors of Hope 4 person scramble Golf Tournament at beautiful Clear Springs Golf Club. This year's tournament is on Saturday, September 11th, 2010. For more information please contact Marg Moody at 752-4081.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Bill Walton for his dedication to our team. Bill is our resident photographer and past Board member. He captures great memories for us and updates our website on a regular basis. Bill recently created a fantastic DVD of the Peterborough International Dragon Boat Festival which really touched our hearts and the hearts of other paddlers who participated. Hats off to you Bill; you are awesome!

We would also like to feature Alice Radley in this month's article. Alice is a paddler, past board member and recently has taken on the task of being our general manager. Not an easy feat to do all of our travel arrangements and make 22+ paddlers happy! However Alice has done it in spades. We are looking forward to see what adventures Alice has in store for us in September when we compete in Stratford! Go Alice!

The team would like to acknowledge and congratulate Chris MacMillan for being awarded the 2010 Kathy Sirrs Award. This award is an honour as it is a legacy and in memory of Kathy Sirrs who was a Warrior and lost her battle with Breast Cancer! The award is for the most enthusiastic, dedicated and passionate Warrior and that certainly is Chris!! Way to go Chris "Paddles Up to you"!

If you are a breast cancer survivor and want to join our empowering team please contact Chris @ 474-9076 or for more information check out our website at www.warriorsofhope.com

We sincerely hope that you enjoy a wonderful fall and that you embrace all that this wonderful community has to offer! Paddles UP!!! Mary Willard, On behalf of the Warriors of Hope Dragon Boat Team.
