Bracebridge

As the old saying goes, "it's time to get out of Dodge". I decided it was a good idea to look for some twisty roads and maybe some great places to eat. So I called ahead and reserved a room in Bracebridge so I could use the town as a base. On Day 1, after taking in the downtowns of Huntsville and Bracebridge, I decided to ride to Gravenhurst via Muskoka Beach Road #17.

What an enjoyable ride - lots of twists, turns and straight sections with hills. What made this route somewhat unique were the trees that canopied the road letting in just the right amount of sun. At the end of my first day's trek, I thought I would go for a walk and see what I could find for local food fare. While reading the menu posted in the window of the restaurant "One Fifty Five", Lydia and Trudy who were entering the place said that I wouldn't be disappointed. Thanks ladies; you were absolutely right…the food was homemade and delicious. One Day 2, I ventured out onto Hwy 118, south on Hwy 35 then through Bobcageon, ending up at the Cody Inn in Buckhorn for lunch.

Friends highly recommended the Chinese food at the Cody Inn and they were right, the food was fantastic. From Buckhorn, I took Hwys 507 and 503 which were also excellent routes. At the end of my second day's trek I discovered another restaurant in Bracebridge called "Jack Marlins". The waitress showed me to my table and returned with a basket of homemade potato chips, not French fries, homemade potato chips that were, as they say, "to die for". Then she came back with this huge Caesar salad topped with grilled salmon that was absolutely succulent and filled me with exactly what I wanted. On Day 3, I rode back to North Bay via Hwy 118, north on Hwy 35 to Hwy 60 and then 11 North.

That weekend had fantastic roads, perfect weather and great food at the end of each day. Thanks to someone who put up "STOP" signs or I would have ridden right through some of Ontario's beautiful towns and scenery. By the way I put on just around 800 kilometers in about 3 days. That's it for now; keep the rubber side down! Pete.
