The Next Step Life Fitness Centre

With Tony Armstrong at The Next Step Life Fitness Centre

As a personal trainer, I am constantly asked what is the best and quickest way to decrease the size of the waistline. Advertisements on TV would like us to believe various abdominal machines will transform our midsections into the six pack of our dreams. This is just not the truth. It is a three way approach to ensure long term success.

First and foremost, you need to monitor your calorie intake. Watch your amount of snacking, limit empty calorie foods (i.e. chips and cookies), and increase your amount of fruits and veggies. All meals should consist of approximately 30% fats, 35% protein and 35% carbohydrates to ensure a healthy, well balanced diet. Secondly, cardiovascular exercise is essential.

Clearly it is the quickest way to utilize fat, as fat is just stored energy. And finally, strength training 2-3 times weekly to maintain an active metabolic rate. It's imperative to work all your muscle groups equally; do not overtrain your abs. Following these guidelines will ensure your continued success.
