With the North Bay Astronomy Club
On September 21st, Jupiter reaches the middle of the midnight sky and will be at opposition (magnitude -2.9). The solar system's biggest planet is practically as big as it can get in the night sky, due to it's position with relation to the sun and Earth.
A medium-size telescope should bring out details in Jupiter's banded cloud patterns. September is also the time for the good friends at the North Bay Astronomy Club (NBAC) to get back together at the first monthly meeting of the season, September 8th, 2010 at Sunset Park Public School, 1191 Lakeshore Drive in North Bay and continuing every second Wednesday of each month until June.
Membership in the club is open to anyone with an interest in astronomy. Whether you are viewing the sky for the first time, or you are a seasoned astronomer, we invite you to come join us and experience one of our meetings. In addition to meetings there is Stargazing at the North Bay waterfront every Friday or Saturday (weather permitting) right across the road from the carousel.
On Saturday, October 16th, 2010 the club will be celebrating International Astronomy Day Fall 2010, again, at the North Bay Waterfront. Join us for solar observing, telescope displays & demonstrations, laser-guided sky tours and stargazing and receive a free sky map.
