This may be a little early but soon it will be time to put away your summer toys and prepare for the long winter ahead. For some people this means storing your summer vehicles. There are a few things you need to remember before you do so. It is perfectly okay to take liability coverages off a vehicle that you are storing but make sure that it is stored in a safe place. Parking for the season on the road is not a good idea. Another motorist could run into your vehicle. In a hit and run situation most companies will require collision coverage on the vehicle in order to reimburse you for any damages to your vehicle. Your broker can have you sign a OPCF 16 to suspend coverage for liability which would cover you for any accident benefit claim or for DCPD coverage (which covers damage on your vehicle for which you are not at fault) but it does not provide collision coverage.
It you have to store a vehicle by parking it in a parking lot or on the road, it is best to keep all coverages on it. I suppose you have all noticed that insurance rates have escalated. One explanation for this is the rising cost of health care. Under the accident benefit portion of your auto policy you are entitled to receive benefits that include medical rehabilitation and therapies. These costs have increased dramatically which in turn has driven up your premiums. But enough about those depressing issues. We hope you get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather and colours that we are blessed with in Northern Ontario. From the staff at Cambrian Insurance Brokers.
