The Ancestor Investigator
One never knows what will be marked down on a record for one's ancestors. We spend the time trying to find those B/M/D records as well as census records with the hope of finding a tidbit of information that will lead us further back in time. I have come across strange and interesting items of information that pique my interest such as unusual names like Red Thunder, Taking Gun In Night and Bruised Head. I located a baptismal of a three month old, in Quebec, with a marriage for the parents attached to it occurring on the same day; shotgun comes to mind! The benefit of the doubt should be considered as perhaps no cleric was around to marry the couple earlier. At times, the interesting item that has been documented on a record in the words of the recorder of the event will reveal a little history. A marriage record from England I obtained recently supplied all the information that I was hoping to find, other than the name of the bride's and groom's mothers, this is never given. In addition, in very small and scraggly writing, just below the line that asks the place of marriage, it was stated that "The marriage took place in the Short Room, due to the fact that the church was being reconstructed". A quick search suggested that a Short Room was a place for certified copies of records, most likely a town hall.
